Not Science Fiction

As support for the PSIDS draft resolution grows with the addition of co-sponsors such as Canada and the Philippines, Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has made his support clear as well. His statement to the Pacific Islands Forum taking place in Niue was reported by Bloomberg’s Paul Tighe:

I am very heartened that the Pacific island countries are making their voices heard on the subject of climate change. Climate change is not science fiction. As your countries know all too well, it is real and present.

The Forum’s focus at this week’s meeting is the threat climate change poses to the food security and safety of island communities. While the islands seek to safeguard their own survival to whatever extent they can, it will be up to the international community to enact measures that will mitigate climate change and preserve many of these nations from what will otherwise be eventual annihilation.

As the end of this session of the General Assembly draws near, your support for their UN missions and the draft resolution is more important than ever. Please show it by contacting us or donating resources.
